Ruth Helyer is Professor of Work Based Learning at Leeds Trinity University, UK and a National Teaching Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Actively involved in work-based learning for the last 15 years she is also editor of The Work-Based Learning Student Handbook (Palgrave, 2015), Facilitating Work-based Learning: a Handbook for Tutors (Palgrave 2015), and the Emerald peer-reviewed journal Higher Education Skills and Work-based Learning (The official journal of UVAC).

Felicity Kelliher is a Senior Lecturer in Management at Waterford Institute of Technology and co-founder of the RIKON research group ( She has published widely in the area of management capability development and learning and has co-authored two books. A Fulbright Scholar, Felicity has been involved in research-led applied learning projects for nearly 20 years and was awarded the Knowledge Transfer Ireland Research2Business Collaborative Impact award in 2015 in recognition of this work.

Professor Abraham is a thought leader in Work-Applied Learning (WAL), work based learning using action research, action learning and reflective practice. He is also the founder of the Australian Institute of Business (AIB) and currently Chairman of the Higher Education Council of AIB and Chairman of the Global Centre for Work-Applied Learning. Over the last 40 years, his focus has been on work-based learning, which he has extended into the concept of WAL and he currently researches and consults in this area.

Professor Garnett, a thought leader in work-based learning, was formerly the Director of the Institute for Work Based Learning and Professor of Work-Based Knowledge at Middlesex University. Jonathan has over 21 years’ experience at the leading edge of the development and operation of work-based learning partnerships at higher education level (Certificate to Doctorate) and has worked with public, private and third sector organizations in the UK and internationally.
