All submissions have been reviewed and the results are now in. Although many high-quality submissions were received, ultimately the judging panel was able to choose an outright winner.

The researchers commented: "We feel privileged to have won the 2010 Emerald/CLADEA Latin American Management Research Fund Award for our research “Caracterización de los sistemas de disposición de residuos hospitalarios peligrosos-estudio de caso” (Characterization of the hospital dangerous waste management systems- a case study) conducted for the Metropolitan Area including Medellín, Colombia. Being judged and found worthy by an international panel of prestigious scholars is a great reward that in itself motivates our local institutions to invest more resources in research projects and ourselves to put more effort into creating knowledge that can be used to solve social and economic problems. This Award was run by Emerald and ALCS (The Authors' Licensing and Collecting Society), in association with INASP and the International Academy of African Business and Development (IAABD).

The judging panel comprised of Professor Kevin Ibeh ( Director of Research Department of Marketing, University of Strathclyde, UK) and Professor Sonny Nwankwo (Director, Petchey Centre for Entrepreneurship, University of East London, UK; and IAABD co-founder). "My co-author, Norma Juma, and I are honoured and delighted to have won the prestigious Emerald award for 2010. I very much appreciate my co-author whose contribution was the suggestion to me that the research be presented for the Emerald award and for her editorial assistance. I would also like to thank my PhD supervisor’s Prof. Mary Rose and Dr. Ellie Hamilton of Lancaster University, for their significant contribution, as this investigation is culled from my on-going PhD research which has received their unflinching support.
This award represents a significant step in my dream to support and promote indigenous knowledge and entrepreneurship, which I believe is of immense value to contemporary society besides local communities. I look forward to promoting the role of indigenous knowledge and entrepreneurship in achieving sustainable development in both emerging and developed economies. Grassroots innovations by indigenous entrepreneurs have the potential to create increased value at reduced costs as well as influence the future for the better by promoting the use of ecosystem friendly indigenous solutions. Further, I hope to continue researching into ways of imbibing conventional production and consumption patterns with more sustainable and efficient indigenous practices."
